In 2015, ECDSWCo was established by a Federal Government Public Enterprise by Council of Ministers Regulation No. 365/2015 as a multi-disciplined engineering firm and provides professional services in water and energy, transport, building and urban planning and related disciplines. The corporation was founded by amalgamation of three former Public Enterprises, viz. Water Works Design and Supervision Enterprise (WWDSE), Construction Design Share Company (CDSCo) and Transport Construction Design Share Company (TCDSCo) that were predominantly providing engineering consultancy services in water, building and transport sectors, respectively.
The corporation then prepared a business transformation and diversification plan that clarifies the intention, interventions and goals of the planned transformation of the corporation into a multi business company as Ethiopian Engineering Corporation (EEC) which is an end-to-end construction solution provider in water and energy, transport, building and urban planning and related disciplines through successive undertakings. The provisions given in the Corporation’s establishment Regulation No. 365/2015 allows for diversification of the Corporations business and the utilization of borrowing and other means of external finance mobilization.
Currently, the Corporation is at the verge of transforming into full-fledged end-to-end engineering solution provider Corporation with two streams of business namely consultancy and construction business units. EIH considers EEC as among the sixteen strategic companies where EIH plans to exercise active ownership with the aim of enabling its subsidiaries to obtain market leadership in terms of profitability and scale in terms of output of products or services.
In accordance with this, EIH’s 5-year strategic agenda address EEC engage into construction and property management markets and strengthen talent management given knowledge-intensive nature of design business (EIH Strategic plan 2023).
